The service is underwhelming. Menus are plonked at the end of the table. No distributing around guests, no offer to take drink orders or offer starters. Had to hunt down waiter for drinks, beers arrived then glasses 10 minutes later.

Went for a high-tea. Nice decor, though positioned next to the hotel reception took away from the atmosphere. Food was very pleasant, coffee was fine but nothing special. Suits a casual quick bite or lunch.

New hotel in a great location close to city attractions. Rooms are well equipped. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice. A great place to stay in Newcastle.

Novotel is a relatively new hotel, and overall has a fresh, modern feel. I've stayed here a few times, and have always found the staff to be very good - not just friendly and helpful, but very professional as well.

While I haven't eaten at the restaurant, I have ordered their "Grab n Go" breakfast (essentially a bacon and egg wrap and a coffee) which are good, and good value, and a great option if you're in a hurry. Again, the restaurant staff are always efficient, friendly and professional.

The rooms themselves are quite spacious, with all the amenities you'd expect. Again, new, modern and fresh. The shower was very good in terms of temperature and pressure.

The big letdown here is the beds. My bed was possibly the hardest and least comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Also, while they're advertised as king size, they appear to be king singles bolted together - meaning there is a discernible join down the middle of the bed. Unfortunately although I love this place overall, I won't stay here again for this reason alone. It's a great hotel, but if you can't get a decent night's sleep, what's the point? I suspect they may have replaced the beds at some point recently, as I didn't have this issue on previous stays.
